Rhythmtyme English Toy Terriers are the very proud owners of an Intermediate Xoloitzcuintle from the world renowned Gimenez-Valdes Kennel in Mexico.
We are greatly indebted to Rafael and Fidel Gimenez-Valdes for letting Apancingo come to Wales.
He has only been lightly shown and is unbeaten in the Intermediate Xolo or variety classes. He has gained a Group 2 place standing next to "Tenango" (a standard Xoloitzcuintli pictured at the bottom of the page) who is also from the world famous kennel and he is in fact the WORLD'S TOP XOLOITZCUINTLE. Apancingo has also had three Group 3 places and one Group 4. A very impressive start to his show career.
The Xolo is at present on the American Kennel Club Foundation Stock Register but as of 1st December 2010 they will be accepted into the AKC Stud Book and that will entitle them to compete in the Non-Sporting Group from the 1st January 2011.
In the U.K. they can only be shown in the Utility Import Breed classes but we are hopeful that by adding another dog to the numbers already in the country we will soon have our own classes here.
Apancingo was delivered to the carriers by Rafael Gimenez-Valdes on Wednesday afternoon 20th October 2010. On Thursday afternoon he flew from Mexico to Huston, and Huston to Heathrow, London arriving on Friday 22nd October 2010.
Regrettably the carriers had not checked his paperwork correctly, even though they had it 4 days before his fly day, and when he arrived it was discovered that his tick and tapeworm treatment was out of date. A vet was then called to administer the treatment and he spent Friday night at the Animal Centre at Heathrow. We picked him up on Saturday 23rd October 2010 and headed home to Wales.
On the 1st January 2011 we received the very sad news that Rafael Rolando Gimenez-Valdes had passed away on the afternoon of the 31st December 2010. A very knowledgable gentleman passionate about the Xoloitzcuintle his legacy will live on in the wonderful dogs he has bred.

The Xolo is an iconic symbol of Mexico's cultural heritage and has been declared the national breed of Mexico.
It is often referred to as "The First Dog of the Americas" and traces back 3,500 years.
Although most of the world's Xolo breeding stock derived from Mexican bloodlines,
the breed teetered on the brink of extinction in its native land for nearly 500 years.

Dominant hairlessness is genetically linked to the trait for missing teeth. This combination of traits has been noted for more than 500 years. Coated Xolos always possess normal dentition. Many hairless Xolos possess complete dentition but others exhibit characteristic features of hairless dentition such as missing premolars and primitive tusk like canine teeth. Puppies of both varieties possess a complete set of deciduous teeth. For the hairless variety this is no guaranteee that a complete set of adult teeth will follow. Bite - Scissors bite. In the hairless variety, the absence of premolars is acceptable. Complete set of incisors preferred but lack thereof is not to be penalized. In the coated variety, complete dentition is required.

Feet - are harefeet, webbed, with well arched toes. Thin soft pads, splayed feet or rounded feet are a serious fault.
