  • March 2009 - We applied for our own Kennel Name.  This being no mean feat as the Kennel Club has over 70,000 names registered with them already. After submitting many names we have been advised that it is 99% confirmed that we can have "RhythmTyme".  This name was chosen as Rhythm - Champion Amalek I Got Rhythm is the corner stone of the Witchstone Kennel and is the sire of Champion Witchstone Free's A Crowd (Ruben).  Tyme - Champion & American Champion Animalhouse Partytyme Moe was the first Toy Manchester Terrier to be imported into this Country and he is the sire of Champion Witchstone Changeofheart (Jack) and Ch Witchstone Heads Or Tails (Harry). 30th March 2009 - today our provisional Kennel Name Certificate arrived. The name will now be printed in the May edition of the Kennel Gazette and six weeks after that it will become official.

  • 8th October 2008 - Mike and I set off at 5am for the PetPlan Junior Stakes Final 2008 which was being held at Kempton Park Racecourse, on the outskirts of London.  Nick Gourley was working in London so we arranged to meet at the venue.  We were most fortunate to have qualified Ruben at East of England under judge Mr. Max King. 16 dogs and 16 bitches who had won qualifying heats throughout the year were ready for inspection by the three judges; Ann Ingram from Ireland, Ron James from Wales but living in England and Hans van den Berg from Holland.  Ruben was the ONLY dog from the Toy Group qualified, so that was quite an achievement in itself.  The competition was judged on a points system.  Each judge went over every dog in turn and then awarded points accordingly.  These points were then added together and displayed on an electronic score board at the end of the arena. Ruben put in a foot perfect performance and gained 22 points for confirmation, 23 for type and 23 for movement (the highest score awarded for movement was 24) - finishing on a total of 68 points.  Much to our delight, after the three phases, he finished in joint 3rd place.  The top five dogs are usually asked back into the arena but because there were 7 dogs tying on 68 points nine dogs were recalled.  The Judges were then asked to award points for, what was termed as, "Star Appeal". The audience were not told what points had been awarded to each dog in this section. NOW THIS WAS THE NAIL BITING BIT - Two dogs were called forward, sent around the ring and then asked to leave, this left 7.  Then three were called forward, sent around the ring and two were asked to leave. This now left 5 and the marker boards were brought out into the arena - winner, runner up, 3rd, 4th & 5th.  Mr. Andrew Brace the commentator announced the places in reverse order - in 5th place was the Shetland Sheepdog, in 4th place was the Akita and in third place was THE ENGLISH TOY TERRIER - what a wonderful achievement for our breed.  In fourteen years of the competition only THREE English Toy Terriers had qualified (two dogs - Harry in 2006, Ruben in 2008 and a bitch owned by Nick and Andy in 2003) but this was the first time that one had been placed.  A Wire Haired Fox Terrier was second and a Lakeland Terrier won the event and received a cheque for £500.00.  The prizes were presented by Simon Wheeler, PetPlan's Head of Marketing, followed by a photo session.  We then left the dogs on the benching, in the capable hands of the Security Guards, and attended a CHAMPAGNE reception in a Suite overlooking the racecourse.  After the reception we moved into the Desert Orchid Suite where we had a three course slap-up meal.  What more could one ask for the views over the racecourse were glorious, champagne, good food and a third place in one of the major events in the Dog Show Calendar.
